This from online version of Cartersville Newspaper. 6/8/11:
Man assaulted at beach
Late Monday night a Bartow County deputy responded to a battery and entering auto call at Bartow Beach.
The complainant stated that he was bringing his boat to the dock when he noticed two Hispanic males standing at his truck. One of the males was attempting to steal the stereo and the complainant tried to pull him out of the truck. At that time he was struck in the back of the head with what he believed to be a fist and he fell to the ground.
Both suspects left in a small, red Honda with an unknown tag number.
So.. Heads up Y'all

That's not the kind of news I want to hear! Fortunately the Bartow County Sheriff's department is pretty good about patrolling that area. I hope now they step it up a notch. The other thing I would be concerned about is the number of fishermen out there that are "packing". Those thieves could get thier just reward up here in Bartow County if they run across the wrong guy.

It would be a shame if someone got overenthusiastic and shot some clown and went to prison or got bankrupted by lawyer fees. Shooting them ain't much different than shooting a coyote but the fees are much worse.

Nothing wrong with packing as long as you are legal and legit and use common sense, i hope they get caught by the Police-they might not pay the Ultimate Price if the Police catch em in the act. Nuff said.

Better judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I was told it is illegal to carry on the lake. Is this not true?

it's illegal to have firearms on a COE property...private ramps, non-COE, have different rules.
However, this is a great example of the phrase: its easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

The only time you can carry any firearm on Corp property (which I am assuming is anywhere you are physically floating on the lake, a corp. boat ramp and the lake bed when the lake is drawn down) is when you are hunting for either turkey or waterfowl, only during those seasons and it can only be a shotgun with no larger than #4 shot.
