Appreciate the comments from all who attended our DNR public and scoping meetings (and sent letters/e-mails or called) over the last few months! We received a lot of good comments and feedback. Most were in agreement with wanting to improve bass size quality at Allatoona, however attaining that goal through implementation of a slot limit did not garner enough angler support to warrant a change at this time. Below is a DNR statement concerning the final decision.
Thanks,
Jim
Public input determines no changes for now on Allatoona bass length limit.
Anglers have long voiced their desire to increase the number of larger bass in Lake Allatoona. In response to these requests and after extensive scientific evaluation of the fishery, fisheries biologists developed a recommendation to place a 13-15 inch slot length limit on bass designed to meet angler desire for improved bass size quality.
The recommendation was presented at one public meeting and five scoping meetings conducted between March and May 2011. Additional angler comments were received via e-mail, letter and by phone during the same time period.
After all comments were reviewed, it was discovered that anglers were evenly split on the issue. In light of these findings, the DNR has determined that proceeding with a formal proposal to the DNR Board to change the Lake Allatoona bass length limit is not warranted at this time.

Jim, let me be the 1st to say how much I appreciate all of the hard work you do on behalf of our fisheries. Hopefully sometime in the future through more angler education minds will become more open to change. I for one deeply regret this outcome and hope for better things to come in the future.

Jim, I also really appreciate what you have done and all the work you put into this. I also respect the fact that you guys are open minded enough to weigh the public sentiment in your decisions. That speaks volumes for your agency!

Jim, thanks for all the effort you put into the study. While I spoke out against the slot, I respect your study and the process. I agree we need to educate fishermen to start harvesting the small ones. Thanks to you and DNR for what you do.
