I beg to differ. Of the top 7 guys in our club point standings, 3 are full time non boaters and 1 goes boat or no boat. Only 3 are full time boaters. Granted, the club as a whole has had some bad tournaments and a few guy's have zero'd. The top 7 are:
1) Danny Palmer- older gentleman, very consistent- almost always weighs fish. full time boater.
2) Mickey Smith- very consistent also. full time non boater.
3) Steve Baker- probably the best fisherman in our club, never pre fishes, always in top six. full time boater.
4) Fred Ziesmer- boat owner, fishes boat or no boat.
5) Patrick Watkins- older gentleman, very consistent, is full time non boater and almost always out fishes his boater partner, struggled a bit this year.
6) Mike Dinatti- full time boater. struggled in 2 tournaments because of boat issues.
7) Andrew Himmelreich- 18 years old, just graduated from high school. full time non boater.
Whether your in the front of the boat or the back, you still have to put the lure in front of the fish's face and get him to bite. We don't have one boater in our club who won't ask his non boater if he has some place that he'd like to go or something he'd like to try. We share information, specific details and lures. We're competitive but not cut throat. We want all members to catch fish and have fun. This way, guy's don't get discouraged and quit our club. We've had guy's quit, but it was because of the economy, change in family status, change in job or family relocation. Never have we had a member quit because they felt that they were treated badly by other members.
Although we have a couple retired members, the majority of our members are guy's who go to work every day and consider themselves "weekend warriors," who love to fish.
