My fuel primer bulb will not stay primed, my engine will cut off when running if someone does not keep manual pumping bulb. I changed the bulb and a few hose clamps and checked the sifter valve at the tank. The bulb will not fully inflate now it will only get about half hard, except I can disconnect the hose going from the bulb to the engine and cover the output side of the bulb with my finger and then it will pump up fully and stay hard as long as I keep my finger over it. Please help!!!!!ks
Thanks Matt

Check the hoses if you did not replace them. Ethanol can cause the interior of the hose to seperate and block the flow of fuel. I had that happen to me on my last boat.

Got any fuel leaks around the engine when you pump the bulb? Some engines have small gas lines around the reservoir. Fuel injected or carburetor? If carb... Is the float stuck?

Sounds like you have a hole in the fuel pump diaphram. you need to have the fuel pump rebuilt. fairly simple process.

The johnny fastrikes have been around a long time and still running. Sometimes they need a little care.
to the op, if you can get it to prime while putting your finger over the hose, it tells me that the bulb itself is suspect. I would get a new OEM bulb with the yellow ends. That's the 3/8 ths size
