Hi, I'm new and I've been fishing for Spots on Allatoona for years. When I first moved here in '93 the adage was that Allatoona was the dead sea. This couldn't be further from the truth, however it is a difficult lake to fish, at least for me. I've learned to fly fish a couple years back, and recently discovered catching carp on the fly. This has got to be the most rewarding experience I've had in my fishing life. I'm not sure if I'll ever fish for another species again! I caught this 5 1/2 pounder this morning and it took fifteen minutes before I could get it to the boat. Is there anyone else on this forum who fishes for carp with a fly rod? I hope to learn a lot from you guys, and may be I can contribute some knowledge from time to time. Tony Hipps Attachments:

I have never fished for carp with my flyrod, but it sounds like a lot of fun. What weight rod do you use and what type of fly?

I use a 9' 9wt WF line with a sinking tip. The flies are usually a carp fly that will throw up a puff of silt when the line is stripped.
It is a lot of fun! All is done by sight fishing. I'ts just like bone fishing or permit fishing without having to go to the Florida flats. Just like bone fishing the carp are in the shallows and tailing while they forage. Lead the carp by ten or fifteen feet with a sinking fly, and when he gets close strip your line a couple of inches to kick up some silt, and he will be on it!
