Bob, you certainly do have some valid concerns regarding the new rules.
Before, the program was certainly monitored by the COE, but they weren't the ones marking the trees or getting materials. Most of the trees that I cut would probably fall in a fairly short time with enough erosion, but several were not in imminent danger of falling.
I certainly think that this is still an honorable project that Ray, Mike, Jim Hakala and others have put many hours into and I hope it continues. I know that the winter time is probabaly not the best time to be dropping trees onto a dry lake bed anyway. Many of the trees I dropped on the ground would break the limbs on the underside of the tree while the ones that hit the water usually wouldn't stay intact.
Ray... hope you find those Aces!

Bob the biggest change is that we now will need to cable every tree. And that could be a severe impediment to the number of trees that we can cut overall, which is also where I am hoping to have an ace later in the year to be able to go back to only cabling the trees that come detached from the stump. At the begining of the program the COE & DNR jointly marked all of the trees, but then last year they turned us loose to choose for ourselves what trees to cut. However it seems that some of the pleasure boaters did not like it when we cut some trees where they like to beach their boats and party. So they complained to the COE about the tree cutting program. Which is why the COE will once again mark all of the trees. We will still use the same cable and cable attachments, but the COE is trying to get some of their sponsors to help with supplying the connectors that we crimp on the end of the cables to defray our cost.
Long story short we need more people to call the COE who are in support of the program and stress to them that they want the program to continue and be expanded all across the lake.

Pleasure boaters!?!? AARRRGHHGH! I'll never understand that love the CoE has for them. Maybe they can strike a deal to pick up the Budlight cans out of Illinois Creek and put a wave height limit so the trees won't get washed away.

Pleasure boaters!?!? Maybe they can strike a deal to pick up the Budlight cans out of Illinois Creek. Funny that you mention that Bob. Because some of those pictures just happened to be worked into my presentation to the COE. And that part left them a little speachless. I dont know if there is a love affair or if it is that politicians, lawyers and people with influence seem to own pleasure boats not fishing boats, if you know where I'm going with this. Ray whats the number we need to call to the COE and who do we need to talk with. Also will email work? Mike the number for the COE office at Allatoona is 678-721-6700 and you would want to talk to Jerry Purcel.

You can duplicate those pictures in Five Fingers, Iron Hill, the coves just past Wilderness Camp going up into Stamps, and the cove straight across from the Red top Boat Ramp. I am sure there are even more places toward Little River, but I don't spend much time up there.

I've actually caught cans below that major bluff across from Clear creek as well. Thats bad when you can catch a can!!
