I have an 85 johnson 115 hp that is melting the electrode. I have rebuilt many 2smoke motors but they were on dirt bikes so I know just enough to be dangerous. I have spark and good compression. But only one of the cylinders has the problem. With new plugs (ngk and its the correct heat raiting) its fine for about 30 min and I lose the cyl. Can it possibly be the power pack even if I have spark. any ideas on what else to check before I give up and send it to a mechanic

Dont do it! You can fix it yourself. Very simple engines. If you spend enough time w a multi meter you will find your problem. When you are done you will have an immense sense of self satisfaction, saved money, and will have acquired the knowledge to tackle any future ignition problems. If you are armed with a shop manual for your engine it probable wont take long because you will have all the expected readings for every part at your finger tips. I road around the lake yesterday w an engine i got for 80$, i had to rebuild the entire armature plate and man was it satisfying. It took me a while because id never been inside an omc engine before but now i can fix any ignition problem myself, and omc ignition parts are cheap.

You have an extremely lean condition and that cylinder is running way hot. If not familier with outboard engines, I would have it checked before running it much more.....internals will become externals. Also OMC/BRP recommends only Champion plugs. I would check carbs for low fuel flow :ie fuel restriction, or carb rebuild.
