First off,a very merry christmas to each and all....My name is james and I am pumped over this float N fly thing in which I have spent over 6hrs off and on researching. During this last week I had ordered a BnM rod and ANOTHER reel to seat ,as well as another for my pops as a christmas gift. I would appreciate any helpful info on this new technique that will get me up and running. I am located in North Texas and this technique is not common to this area. Look forward to chatting more with you .
Happy Holidays, James

James, I am a North Texas transplant to Georgia and I love FnF. I am also a moderator (global) on the Texas Fishing Forum, and the Georgia Fishing Forum. Will you be using this technique in Texas? If so, where abouts do you live? If I were to come home to Texas I would use it on Lake O the Pines, Texoma, Grapevine, Belton, Possum Kingdom, just to name a few, due to the populations of spotted bass and smallmouth bass in those impoundments.

Bob,Im in Plano, and I hope to have some success with the FNF on my home lake of Lavon and Ray Hubbard with Texoma thrown in. I am reading all over the place(googled articles) about smallmouth and kentucky bass being the main target. My biggest concern is how well it does on largemouth bass lakes where largemouths are either the primary and only bass.Unfortunely,I fish more east of the Dallas area with Lake O the Pines being a little to far.I can see your picks to the west being outstanding.
So, will I be in good shape for largemouth bass?

Grapevine has a decent population of smallmouth and spotted bass, the water color needs to be fairly clear (3' plus is better). The presentation will catch Largemouth but it is normally better suited for the other two species. It is a vertical presentation for fast breaking or vertical banks, typically with rock. Hubbard and Lavon probably won't give up anything on the fly, at least not readily. Be sure and go to Georgia Tackle and let Dave, Christie and Kohl ship you an assortment of our favorite fly colors such as Spot Sushi, Spot Candy and a few others.

Thanks,Bob for all the input....Im ahead of you on the flys and Geogia tackle(got it covered}...Today, I have all the parts/tools to modify the float as per website video...This saturday will be the test run at Ray Hubbard. I can only get 4-5hrs in with dad. But I have some choice ideas where to put the bait!!!My reel is filled with hi-vis yell braid with 8lb floro leader.
Will try the outlet where they should not be running heat along with some breaklines in that area. And the marinas have sharp levees to break water. The edges of those many miles of riprap where the rocks end could be ok. All the bridge passways have good deep points along with pilings.Somewhere in there are bass but I will put aside dropshot rig and give the FNF a shot.
If I cant get things going will travel away from home waters and fish some of what you advised by which are no farther than 75 miles.

When you first rig up, set the bobber about the length of the rod, and DO NOT use a swivel. That way if you get hung up, you can remove the bobber and reel down to the fly and normally push it off whatever was hung on. Next, try to guess approximate how far away from the visible shoreline will be deep enough to just float the fly. Next observe what the bobber looks like with the weight of the fly hanging under it (they do not always stand straight up or lay down, normally somewhere in between), this is important so that you detect those "lift bites" (Just the opposite of when they take it down). This should get you started, don't get frustrated it takes some getting used to.

looking foward to it....made modifications to a cigar shaped bobber as per specifications to the video...3 1/4(L) by 3/4(W)..Four(4) of them in fact... I need to quickly change leader depths and probaly retrieve a few baits(YUK)
Ill put along side of boat on short leader ,first, to see if it turns when lifting up the fly.Im assuming this float will work both 1/16 and 1/8 sizes where it might siton top a little bit deeper with the 1/8th.I gotta produce to keep my dad on board..LOL
We will get a sleep in start,so I hope to report something back saturday evening on our first go at this..
Probaly need to drop to the FNF section to make report....
