Is there any chance of getting some type of grass (primrose, duck weed, hydrilla, etc.) established in sections of Allatoona? I think it could really help this lake a great deal. Water levels changing doesn't seem to affect Chickamauga's grass too much. I think the TVA usually pulls it down 5-7 ft. each winter. Would really like to see a quality largemouth lake closer to home.

The problem with Allatoona is the water level drops too far in the winter. I have seen a 15 foot drop in the past. The lake was designed and built for flood control. Fishing and boating take a back seat. Also, the main lake channel is too deep. The upriver ends get too exposed and dries out when the levels drop. The COE is very resistant to change. It is what it is.
Some folks on here have a program that fells trees on the edge of the lake to increase habitat for the bait fish. It works too. Having said all that....I agree with you on the grass. Looks like we will keep having to trek to Tennessee or Alabama to get the grass Bass.

Go back to the archives about Oct. '07 when there was a grass planting program on the lake with Wheat and Rey grass planted.
