I used to talk to Mike years ago on a forum far far away in another galaxy which is neither here or there. I have followed his excellent posts for many years. I am an old fisherman born and raised in Arkansas but that spent most of his time fishing the saltwater of the Gulf of Mexico. After retiring I have returned to relearn my freshwater roots first back up in Arkansas and now I'm in southern California.

LOL, We won't hold that against ya!! Have you ever been on the Texas Fishing Forum?? I moved out to Georgia from Texas in 2007. I've a been a moderator on the TFF for many years, and that is where I first met Mike. When I moved out here, this forum was still very new and I've been a part of it for a while. I also Moderate the Georgia Fishing Forum (spin-off from the TFF). I've know about the FnF for many years (lived in Tennessee late 80s early 90s and knew of Jim Duckworth and the FNf). I really didn't get into until Mike embarrassed me one night at a local tackle shop and talked me into holding one of those 10' rods. They got a pic of me holding that thing and threatened my reputation with my Texas brethren if I didn't at least give it a try!! The rest is history!!

Yes, I was on the Texas Fishing Forum as well as a few others. I used to live right on the mainland from Galveston Island, Texas and fished some of the small saltwater tournaments some years back out of Galveston and Freeport, Texas with Captain Carl Christoph.
I'm an old Arkansas boy (now 67) and I knew that Float N Fly worked. I used a lot of things my Texas friends thought were strange but they soon started asking where they could find what I had. I was the first one to start using "circle hooks after a guy handed me a bunch because he could not figure them out. I started using blacked out braid for leader to fish sharks so I could release the ones I did not want to keep easily. The braid went between their teeth during the fight and when I wanted to cut them off I just started to work the line up and to the sides. I brought 7 and 8 footers to the boat easily that way and did not have to fool with steel leaders. I loved to eat Black Tips as they made great bar-b-que steaks. I read a lot on West Coast boards and bought Calstar and Black Steel blacks having them made into custom rods for me from casting to Tuna Rods.
