The Big Shanty Bassmasters traveled to Lake Sinclair for the “Battle at Milledgeville” tournament this month, February 18th.
Fishing was pretty good as the fish were moving up into a pre-spawn mode. Water temps were reading in the High 50’s and the clarity was muddy in the Little River section to clear by the Sinclair dam. Tournament day was cloudy with light to moderate rain towards the end of the day.
Scott Bates was this month champ on the boater side with 4 fish weighing in at 9.01 lbs including Big Fish of 3.05 lbs. Scott reports that his fish were caught on the Alabama rig around docks located in the mouth’s of major creeks and a few were caught on a shaky head worm in green pumpkin color. Scott said “The better fish were on the walk ways between the dock and the shoreline. The shaky head had to be sitting still ( a method called dead-sticking) The Alabama rig produced when Ga. Power was generating water from Sinclair into Lake Oconee at Wallace dam.” Andy Henderson came in 2nd on the Boater side and Jack Stewart does a double and wins again on the Co Angler Side
Our Next Meeting is March 6th at Provino’s restaurant off Barrett Parkway in front of Town Center mall. We start right around 7pm and out next tournament is March 18th at Lake Weiss “The Alabama Thaw” as fish should be in full pre spawn patterns. Big Shanty would like to thank Southern Cleaning for their associate sponsorship for this year, They specialize in restaurant and commercial cleaning services. We do have other sponsorship opportunity's so if you like more information please email us at bigshantybass @ gmail.com
