New to the area and looking to get kids on Catfish!

Is the catfishing any good on Altoona during the summer months? Taking the kids on the boat tonight and wondering what we should be fishing? How bout fishing for stripers off of a pontoon? any advice?

I have caught a fiar amount of catfish around the dam as a by catch while striper fishing. as for striper off a pontoon, absolutely! Check out striper soup in Acworth if oyu don't want to net your own bait, or get out early with a cast net and net some shad. Fish them on down lines anywhere from 14 to 30 feet deep.And I always throw out at least 1 free line off the back of the boat to let a shad just swim around, and often times my biggest fish of the day will come on that rod. if you have a map or fish finder look for points and humps, and bait. I rarely fish further than a mile or two away from the dam when striper fishing this time of year. I take my 4 year old striper fishing a lot. He's not patient enough for bass fishing yet and the striper hybrid bite is pretty solid on Allatoona.
