Never fished Altoona any advice...

I will be fishing Altoona in a few weeks plan on launching from tanyard boat ramp. Looking for any tips on where n what to look for. Normally I fish chickamuga. Thanks in advanced

First step would be prepare for heartbreak and disappointment.
Once the water cools off a bit (its 85 now) the spotted bass will start chasing thread fin again. You should be able to catch some fish on top water or jerk baits around long points. A shakey head or finesse jig (green colors) on the same rocky points will catch fish once the top water bite ends.

It's been tough going lately. But the two consistent things I have had working just beating the banks with a green pumpkin finesse worm Texas rigged. and a white Pop R. And some days I'm having better luck around 11-12 noon on the top water bite than I am first thing in the morning. There's also Spots mixed in with the white bass chasing shad all over the lake. But I try to stick to a plan and not get caught up chasing those randomly surfacing fish too much. Good luck!

The cooler nights that we are having should help a bit. I fished last night from about 6 to 9 and was able to land 5 decent keepers and 1 dink. The temp at 6pm was 85. The temp at 9pm was 71. Nothing that would get a check but all about 1 1/2 pounds. We focused on rocky bluffs and bank transitions from rock to clay. All of the fish came on a finesse jig in either Green pumkin or brown.
Also caught a rod and reel that was rigged up with a bobber, hook and sinker. Evidently someone Brim fishing had a bad day.
