goose why do you buy all these swimbaits when it looks like you never talk about them much. always when you caught something is on c-rig or some plastic. and how do you drop shot from the bank i can see maybe a cliff or something. but casting out from the bank and twitching your bait would be like walking you bait slow wouldn't it? anyways just my hardheaded input!! lmao i know what you saying about drop shotting from the bank. i do i on occasion and i know some tournament anglers that do it when they go fish in ponds with me. you just have to make the best out of your situation

hockey- It is not as bad as it seems. I just don't cast it out and hope it get something. When I go to Vogel I cast it near boat docks, fallen trees, and shallow areas with deep water acces. And on Toona I work points with some brush that are located within a cove.
The the swimbaits question ahahahah!!!!!!! I promise you that I throw them.....Really! The problem is on toona there are alot of small spots that love to follow. There is only a small amout of quality spots and large mouth. I can only fish a small area. Mike can put the trolling down and cruise every point he sees. DO you get what I mean. I've had one heart stopping moment on a King Shad. I have gotten SO MANY followers on the triple trout and the 8in Huddleston. I think Vogel would be my best bet for a trophy since those bass eat stocker trout.

You can use everything on a drop shot from a 3 in fluke to a 10.5 Zoom Ole Monster worm with wieghts from 1/8 oz to 3/4 oz. You can use line sizes from 4 pound test to 20 pound test. It can be worked in 100 foot to 2 foot of water. It can be flipped, pitched, dropped, you can cast it and skip it under boat docks/ hanging cover. Think of it more as a system of fishing than a one way street. Just as there is more than 1 way to fish a crank or spinnerbait. I have spent this entire year learning how and when to use this techique and will learn alot more as the years roll on, the biggest part is to keep an "OPEN MIND" when fishing. Fish are a living creatures and their moods change from hour to hour. The old sayin' let the fish tell you how they want it really does apply every minute your on the water we just have to be listening. Hope the helps. Sean

LOL, I didn't see your reply Hockeyruss123 until now. Yeah, what Sean said:)~! Dropshot is super versatile. AWESOME bank fishing technique if you want to catch numbers of fish. I cast my dropshot most of the time; even when I'm in a boat. My basic dropshot rig is very simple. 1/4 oz finesse dropshot weight about 10" to a foot under a #4, #2, or #1 Gamakatsu Split shot/drop shot hook. I'll nose hook either a Roboworm 4" FX Sculpin or a Reaction Innovations Flirt Worm. That's basically my dropshot setup most of the time. You can rig ANYTHING though. I shake the heck out of my bait too. Some guys let the movement of the boat work the bait or whatever; I usually loose line shake it constantly. WORKS WELL! If I'm fishing grass, I'll fish it kind of like how you would fish a lipless crankbait around grass. I'll work the bait like I normally would and when it gets caught in grass; I'll set the hook hard two or three times. With that little nose hook; it'll break free from the grass most of the time. Then I'll go to work it again. When it gets caught in the grass again; I'll rip it free again. You get lots of reaction strikes that way. You'll rip it two or three times really fast, and on the second rip; you'll be hooked up. I took a buddy fishing from out of state during the summer time. Lots of grass. He said he's NEVER seen anyone fish a dropshot like I do around grass. We caught over 40 bass that day on a highly pressured San Diego lake. I've heard Allatoona doesn't have grass really, but if you fish a lake with some grass; try it.
A lot of people relate dropshotting to fishing below the boat with sonar; and that's not the case at all.

A shakeyhead or texas rigged worm is always a good choice. In the spring and early summer and then again in the fall throw a rattletrap, if the lake has grass in it that is submurged, just tick the top of the grass with the rattle trap and hang on. There is a golf course lake in Rome where one spring, when I was home from college, I caught 5 fish over 7 pounds throwing the rattletrap like that. As the heat gets worse try topwater early then try a spinnerbait or crankbait where you can. If you have weeds, try something like a Mann's minues 1, it will work subsurface, but will still call the fish out of those weeds. At that same lake I caught several one summer and some in the 5-plus range doing that over, and through floating grass and over submurged grass. Also if you find any trees, logs or rockpiles concentrate there and fish it SLOW, with a texas rigged work, or even jig. but remember everyone will be hitting those spots, so make it look a little differnt. Throw the worm weightless, or even with a split shot to make the lure fall slow.
