Water level 3.8 feet loe and falling/Water temp 85.
If your in the right areas at first light the topwater bite can be GOOD but it's very very early in the morning. Sammys and buzzbaits are doing the trick on the topwater fish that are in schooling. ONce the topwater bite dies off the fish go DEEP. Dropshotting in the 20+ depths is key right now. I am using very small dropshot worms like small ROBO worms, Tiny FLukes and Baby Sluggos that mimic the Spot tails. One of the primary things to reach these fish and cover the water effectively be sure to use a heavier dropshot weight than you would think you would use. I'm using a 1/2 oz quickdrop weight to reach these fish. Sometimes I'm dipping out into the 30ft of water. BLuff walls and deep brush is key right now. Concentrate on the bluff walls in the vicinity of the Allatoona Pass area. The walls that are not as long seem to concentrate the fish a lot better vs the long walls around Gaults and Little River. Short stretches are better. The bigger fish are significantly deeper than the fish in the 20ft range. If your catching alot of small fish at 20ft throw your dropshot out a little deeper in 25+ ft of water. Those bigger fish are hanging out a bit deeper right now.
If your a tournament angler the dropshot bite is your best bet to get a limit while things are tough during daylight. Use that dropshot to get your limit and use the rest of the evening to cull some fish with a bigger fish. Lets face it you gotta have a limit and a decent Kicker fish to win this time of year. That is the strategy I would use.
Be on the lookout for some GPS coordinates of brushpiles in the next couple of reports. I got so many so my gain is your gain too . Also we will have some contests as well. How does $200.00 in Lucky Craft baits sound? Got Sammy's?? Pointers?? Stay tuned for more details.
