Temp 70
Water level: Full pool
Water Clarity clear to slightly stained
I spent 10 hrs on the lake today and 8 of those were with 2 clients. The fish are biting good but are on the small side. Numbers are in the 20's for most of my trips and lots of baits are working. I am going to go ahead and call us at the height of the spawn as we speak. Lots of largemouth on the beds most are small but almost every other pocket has a fish or two on the bed. I am also still seeing some fry from the first wave of largemouth that have spawned. Spots are being finicky for this time of year. Some close friends say that they are busting shad (staging) in the backs to mouths of coves but today wasn't one of those days. There is ALOT of bait in the creeks right now for the staging to happen. Strange but with no rhyme nor reason why they do what they do. Just keep the trolling motor on high a nd cover water to find the active fish. YOu can get a fairly easy limit on Blue Pearl Senkos. I am getting a few bites on the Hampton Shad Swimbait but you have to grind that bite out to make it work. I did get a 3lb dink on the swimbait. Dropshotting is working v ery well on the bluffs as a alternative bite to the Senko as is the Flashminnow 95MR.
There is also a HUGE HUGE and big shell cracker spawn this year. They are just loving the newly flooded grass that we got from last years drought. Just keep your eye out in the flooded grass and you will find them. Use some Wax worms on a fly rod with kids and they will be hooked for life.
