Water Temp 45-48
Clarity Clear to Rancid Yohoo
Water Level 12.56 ft low
We got a little bit of a rise in the water level due to the extensive rains we got last week. We also got a wall of mud coming down the Etowah as well which is hung up around Victoria/Kellogg Creek area and moving south.
The fishing this week remains pretty good. The fish are scattered but if do some hunting you can find some good concentrations of fish. Lots of spoon fish still biting. Most of my fishing has been done mid lake and north as that is where the vast majority of the bait is hanging out and the fish seem to be more active on that end of the lake this winter.
As I said spoon fishing is good for spots and white fish. Most of the bait and fish are being marked in the 25 to 40ft range with an occasional straggler in the 45 to 50ft range. Most of the spoon fish and bait are suspended and relating to the river channel. I am using a home made spoon in conjunction with my sonar, but I'm sure most of you have seen Hrus picture of him catching fish on a sparkplug lure so that pretty much sums up the bite for me ie finding the right school of fish. It's just silly out there right now especially if you find the righ group of fish. You can catch anywhere from 10 to 70 fish a trip with a mixture of whites, hybs and spots.
I am also doing fairly well on small hair jigs in the 10 to 15ft range for above average fish. I am DYING for this post cold front to hit us as that is what really kicks in my hair jig bite. I'm working a variety of different areas but the key ingrediant for me is that most of the good areas are located very near deep water. For those of you interested, I will have an article on hair jig fishing on ESPN.com around the end of the year time frame. ;D
I also just want to wish everyone a HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON this year. For those of you that booked me in 2008 THANK YOU for your patronage I can't say enough how thankful I am for your business and those of you going out of town for Christmas please drive safely. Please also remember to pray for our troops overseas!
