I've been out fishing quite a bit this week. I've done 2 Allatoona trips and a Carters trip this week.
Water temp 42-28
Clarity: yohoo to clear
Water level 9.41ft low
Lots of wind lately which has kept things interesting. On my Allatoona Trip earlier in the week it was a great day for para sailing, kite flying and heck throw in surfng white caps as well.
Day 1 at Allatoona the fishing was OK. Lots of wind earlier in the week which can make things a little uncomfortable. There was a great crankbait bite going on within the creeks as the fish seemed to be pulling up due to it being pre frontal conditions. I was throwing a Lucky Craft Flat Mini DR in Peacock color and working it slowly along the shorelines. Just make sure you keep it rooting up the bottom was key. I got a good many #'s doing this but the size was small. Still to early for #'s of big fish inside the creeks but the smaller fish were no problems. I then shifted my efforts to the main lake and did improve a little quality wise, but not by much. Same deal keep that crank on the bottom at all times and deflect off anything and everything to trigger the bite. Some were on the walls and some where on the open water flats on the break. I'm using 10lb Triple Fish Fluorocarbon to insure I am getting my crank as deep as possibly can. I did try the Float N Fly some and caught some smaller fish.
Day 2 At Carters was great for quality but no big fish. Not a whole lot of #'s at Carters but they are on points HARD right now as all of my fish came off the steeper points. I had leaders anywhere from 7 to 15 feet and I'm not sure one depth was a better producer than the other. Water is fairly clear throughout the entire lake. I spent most of my time in the main lake and at the mouth of the creeks and river.
Day 3 Today Brian Leiva (Angler557) and I were going to try and go to Blue Ridge but the weatherman said the wind was going to be 19mph so we opted out and went to Toona instead.
Brian is a die hard Spot Sticker thrower. I swear he owns stock in the company. So we matched it up it was Spot Sticker vs Spot Candy The outcome wasn't pretty for Team Spot Sticker. LOL. It started off horrible for team Spot Candy as Brian got the first fish of the day. That was enough to make me mad LOL and to add to my frustration Jim Hakala torqued me off last nite by saying "Allatoona Dinks" on the overhead at the meeting last nite so it was my mission to show him what a pair of 22 inch + spot looks like ;D ;D LOL
But all kidding aside Brian wanted to see the Float N Fly in action and the bite was pretty good to us today. It did start off pretty slow but we ended up catching 10 or 11 fish for our best 5 going roughly 13lbs (all spots). After catching the last big fish Brian went digging into his tackle box and I swear I thought he was going to put a spot candy jig above his spot sticker LOL. Who luvs you Brian LOL. There really wasn't much pattern to speak of. But the main thing was cover water to find the fish as fish were caught on alot of different types of structures. There were alot of lift bites today for it being post frontal conditions so you had to be paying attention at all times. Thanks Brian for fishing with me today!
