Have not fished my pond since late OCT (and neither has anyone else). Gonna' hit her tomorrow. Been cutting some big trees around pond (dropping them outside of pond) and doing a lot of work burning brushpiles. I've been seeing lots of swirls while working and fish appear to be very active since cold spell went away. Hopefully I can post some pics on Sunday. By the latest reports I'm compelled, to say the least, to hit Allatoona next week. I'm excited about this Spring...hope I can find a lot of time to fish.

Sorry for the late response......Mike, worst hunting season in many years for me (harvest wise). Lost a doe I stuck and had no other good shots all year. Saw not a single buck. My South Fulton hot spot got leased right out from under me during the season and my son who's in his first year of college went with me once all year. He's obviously "really busy." I hunted about half as much as I usually do and spent too much time hunting a ghost buck who likes to tear up big trees in the woods on my property. Just hoping he lives until Sept. I'm thankful to have gotten the time I did though. Got the fishing fever now and ready to git it!
On a bank fishing note....my pond inparticular....been out there 3 times since beginning of March and have had one boil on a buzzbait...that's it. I'm still figuring this little pond out but see one factor as a real head scratcher. I was out there Saturday and walked around the whole pond (about a 1/3 acre). The presence of small baitfish and fingerling (species unknown) is INCREDIBLE! I'm talking ranges of 1/2 inch to two inches just thicker than whale snot. And the bluegill/shellcracker is more than plentiful....OK, I'm sure the questions of how many bass is the first question that comes to your minds. All I really know is that the guy who owned the property and built the creek-fed pond said he put a lot of bass and a few crappie in the pond.(this info from a neighbor) I've seen as many as 10-12 at one time cruising a shallow area/bedding area. I'm pretty certain there is a fair to good population but hope to get someone to analyze the pond for me. I feel that the main reason these bass are a little tough to catch with artificials is because the massive amounts of forage. Being that this pond is only 6 years old and the abundance of fish and food is off the charts, it's pretty amazing...and encouraging, but I really want to learn more about what's going on with this pond and what I can do to preserve and maintain it. In the mean time...gonna get the kids out there and live it up with them....they are still talking about last year and YES!.... They is hooked!!!
Mike, how'd your hunting season go? I'm betting you took 3 different big game species this year. Hope it was good for ya'.

Rob, I went hunting ONCE and that was with my dad in Idaho for Elk. Missed a bull and saw a few others and heard a bunch. So far all I have gotten this hunting season is a lousy 5.2lb spot and a 7lb head ;(.

cab- Try a bluegill swimbait! I caught fish on my farm ponds. they don't touch shad or trout swimbaits.

my hunting season didnt turn out as well as i wanted either!!! there is a two true monster bucks on the property i hunt in Cobb. i have been hunting them for three years now! i finally get him to a point where he is ready for me to sling an arrow and then he stop with a tree in between us! he steps towards me and then... i whack him! of course the only shot i could get was a major quartering into shot. and i mean major!! i ended up hitting some ribs and they most have deflected the broadhead or something, because i only found half of my arrow(back half) and there wasnt much blood on it. i trailed him for about 60 yards with very little blood and them tracked him by disruptions on the ground and on branches, etc. i searched high and low for weeks looking for him and never found him. i even had people come help look. i think i might have jumped him and may have only gotten a gut shot. i only waited about 2 hours. with a gut shot you are supposed to wait atleast 6! oh well. there is always next year! but my freshwater fishing has been a little slow this year. its really off and on. I just got back from a week of saltwater fishing at Dauphin Island, Al. I tore the fish up! i caught about 50 sea trout, 30 saltwater catfish, 13 croaker, 7 whitting, some other fish i had no idea what it was, 1 stingray, and a brute 20 pound black drum off a pier with a bass rod with 10 pound line and a 5/o baithook!!
