the spawn peaked about 3 days ago and now the big girls are looking for a good place. i went out last night and saw tons of action and got lots of bites. but no hook sets.
so i went up to ntb and got a few baits. BTW the new zoom midnite fire finesse worms are AMAZING on the spot remover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg! looks great and tears up the bass! i was getting tired of catching 1-3 pounders and so i thought i would catch some bluegill on my new TFO 3wt fly rod. Man am i glad i made the decision to get some bait, because i stumbled upon a MONSTER. I kept throwing lures at her, to get her to engulf, but she wouldnt do anything but run. so i tried putting a bluegill on the spot remover and putting it in the bed. the 3 pound male decided to take the first gill. so i caught 2 more bluegill and let her have her way with them and tease her with them at the same time so she would want the more. she inhaled the first one and i let her take about 20 feet of line before i set the hook. when i attempted to set the hook, the hook must have just ripped out of the gills mouth and missed the basses mouth. so i hook up another gill and threw it to her once she had returned to her bed from eating the other gill. i didnt really tease her much this time. i let her just just the gill out to open water, then back to the big rock i was fishing off of when she opened her mouth and sucked the gill into her big white mouth. i let her take atleast 35 feet of line this time, before i even closed the bail to get a little tension for a hook set. and the fight was on! it was an intense 5 minute battle to wear her out enough to get her close enough to grab her!
pics will be added later once i figure out how to get them off my phone. pics are terrible and make the fish look much smaller than it is
please no bashing on me for that. the phone is my dads old flip phone from like 5 years ago that just gets the job done.
oh and the bass came from the same private lake that my eight and a half pounder came from last year
