This is driving me crazy!! I bought a lower unit to replace my old one earlier this year. Now this one is getting water in it. I need a reasonably priced mechanic that can replace my seals (shaft and motor shaft seals and pressure test my lower unit to make sure I have no cracks. Does anybody know anyone that can get to it on short notice and not take me to the cleaners doing it?

Thanks, guys. I ended up taking it to Phil Cline. he pressure tested it and decided to put a complete seal kit in it. Hopefully, that will allow me to go at least one year without some sort of motor issues. I will keep the names and numbers handy because you just never know. Having several mechanics to choose from is a pretty good option.

phil is in cartersville not far from the dam and yearly pass office..., correct?? He is about a mile and half behind my house, on Jim Knight rd (some folks know it as the short cut to Gatewood).

Got it back today (Friday the 4th). Ended up with a complete Seal job on the lower unit and a whole new Water Pump base, housing impeller and the works. Phil did me right on the price and probably saved me a ton by being insistent on me being patient. The water pump base was a wreck and it was miracle that I was getting water. The o-ring on the bottom of the base was actually melted into the plastic base. (Remember a few months back I bought this lower unit from another guy, off a 1989 motor) My motor is a 1996. I'm thinking I should've replaced the water pump, but I still wouldn't have thought anything about the base. But luckily Phil had to remove it to get to the upper seals and that's when he found it. I'll be launching at Gatewood around 6:30 in the morning. I got my fingers crossed.
