Shawn, how do ya'll at Bremen handle winterizing an Optimax motor insofar as the coating of cylinder walls and interal motor components? Manual advises using a mixture of Quickleen or another good stabilizer with a little bit of DFI oil (teaspoon per oz) directly into fuel filter and running for a few mins to insure coating. Changing filter afterwards. I've heard that use of fogging oil sprayed directly into spark plug hole of an Optimax is not recommended ........just wondering how ya'll handle it.

Bob, don't put it up!! Use the thing right on through the winter and you won't have to winterize it. There is some great days of fishing during the winter here!

Tom Yamaha Ring Free is a fuel additive much the same as Sea Foam but better as it will not harm gaskets. I use it along with Stabille on every tank of gas. I get mine at Bay Marine, it is a bit expensive but cheaper than an overhaul.

Here is how I winterize. I take all the tackle out of my boat. Put in one box of FnF flies and a box of spoons. Bam winterized . Boat appreciates me taking all the unneccessary weight out of the boat so she doesn't have to push as hard .

Bob I would not run a boat with out one,,, got one on my Yammie. I agree. I bought one and installed it, it's even got the clear drainable bottom so you see if there is any water accumulation. The reason I asked is back in 2008 when I had my motor overhauled, I drained by gas tank completely before starting the motor up. I have been running nothing but 92 and 93 octane in there and using this filtering system. What I don't know to be a fact, but have a pretty good confidence in the sources (the outboard repair shop, and a buddy who hauls fuel in Tennessee) is that the high octane gas does not contain the ethanol yet, or at least not in the percentage that the lower octane gas does. The Micro-10 Filter is supposed be one of the most efficient means of water removal available. I know a bunch of folks are buying the Stabil ethanol treatment for the regular use, but I am not convinced that using the high octane gas warrants the need to do that. On the other hand, if I were going to store my boat for a couple of months, I would fill the tank with high octane gas, pour in the storage rated Stabil and not worry about it. Sean and Danny, what are your thoughts? If you can back it up with some data it would help?

I cant back it up with any data but I am like you, I use a 10 micron filter, Marine Stabil and Ring Free on every tank. I really dont use mine alot so I change the filter once a year. What I have been hearing is a lot of confusion with Mercury Owners who have the spin on fuel filter,,, I am trying to convince by Biz pard that he needs a seperate water filter but he was told the Mercury spin oil fuel filter was also a water seperator. Shawn can you confirm or deny? ?
