Kacee, I will be setting up a meeting with the COE in the very near future to discuss this program for 2010. I see no reason why it will not continue at this time. We do however have to get re-focused after taking 2009 off.

I would love to help out with this event. As long as it doesn't fall during the dates of Feb. 15 thru March 16 as I will be gone on military training. Most weekends are good for me, just post the dates once everything is cleared.

Sean Josh, Sean is absolutely right we will have several cutting dates this year. I hope to have the meeting with the COE next week. We have been talking with them this week and are trying to firm up a date and time for that meeting.

You had better be ready to work when it happens. Climbing those hills , cutting the trees and hammering those big old twist spikes into the trees to hold the ropes is a lot more work than most folks realize. I hope to help, but my knees and ankles don't hold up as well as they used to.

Bob, how true. After every cutting I realize that I'm not quite as young as I used to be.
Now for an update!!! Mike and I met at the COE office yesterday and was introduced to Jonathan Wise who will take over Terrell Stoves duties next week when Terrell leaves to a new position with The USACOE in the Mobile District Headquarters in Mobile, Alabama. For those of you that do not know, it was through the endeavors of Terrell and Jim Hakala that the Tree Cutting Program came into existence. Terrell you will be missed greatly and we would like to thank you for all of your hard work throughout the years trying to make Allatoona better for all of us to enjoy. It was good of you to also arrange the meeting with Jonathan and Mike and myself so that we could continue the Tree Cutting Program in the future years to come.
During the meeting we discussed the areas that have already been cut, the areas that are already marked and needing cutting and what areas we could have marked for future cuttings. The areas that we discussed for the future were based upon ideas from Mike, myself and the areas suggested by members from those past threads where we asked for your suggestions. It was then decided by Terrell and Jonathan that we ourselves could now do the marking ourselves based upon the established criteria. This does not mean that anyone can just go out mark a tree and cut it down. The areas have to be approved by the COE and the trees will need to be marked during a planned work day under a Tree Cutting Leaders supervision. And again no one can work on this project without signing the waivers of liability for the COE and the Georgia DNR.
With all of that being said I hope to start the 2010 Tree Cutting in mid to late Febuary depending upon the weather of course and I am looking forward to another productive and most of all safe Cutting Program in 2010.
