I have heard that using a battery tender devise will help prolong the life of a battery, any truth to this?

Yes it will but if you have a dual pro charger all you have to do is keep it plugged in and it does the same thing.

Anthony, can you explain the pro charger. Is it a charger that is just installed on the boat, more or less as convenience and you plug in when you can? or is there more to them?
As usual you expertize is appreciated.

The dual pro chargers are designed to plug-in and leave them alone. They will automatically monitor the battery and if they show signs of a voltage drop they will turn on and top off the charge and go dormant after the initial charge.

They really work well and extend the life of your battery. IMHO, worth the money.

I have a dual pro on my boat and left it plugged in from October to March and my motor cranked first try and I trolled for about 6 hours first time out with no trouble.
This was my first winter to leave my boat plugged in and it worked great!

The BPS chargers are made by ProMariner, and I have the 4/4 on my boat. I haven't had it long enough to have a good opinion, but it sure is nice to just plug in the extension cord and forget about it. Kinda wish I had researched more and found the Lil' Pro from Dual Pro. BPS has them online and they are cheaper than I thought. Reading the reviews on the BPS charger might help you out.
