I'm gonna need some work on my 225 Promax......it started making that dreaded "this is gonna cost ya" noise. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a top notch Mercury mechanic that knows these motors?

The only people I would trust to work on a Pro max or any Merc racing engine would be Nichols outboard engineering. Their # is 423-451-0125 Paul Nichols or Del Eaves. they are located in Soddy Daisey Tn. near Chattanooga so it is a little bit of a drive but HI-Po motors are what these guys do.

Yeah I know that's where I should take it and probably will but I was just wondering if there might be someone somewhat local.

Last night (thursday) i was with Billy Andrews fishing in Lkg4deer's old Skeeter and the Engine went out on it again. They took it back to a guy in Calhoun who is going to fix it back up (under warranty). I believe the guy dropped a long block in it.

Back in Texas it started making a slight clacking noise in rithym with the motor RPMs and I had a slight loss of power........turned out the journals were worn on the crank. It's making the same noise again. I need to get rid of this motor and get a fishing motor like a 300 XS ..... Ha Ha!

You betcha, that's exactly what you need! lol That motor you got already took the hair off the top of your head! I reckon you're about ready to start blowing the sideburns off now! lol!

Shawn at breman marine drag races and runs those motors. He just put a new midsection drive shaft, and bearings in a 2.5 280hp merc for a buddy of mine.

Only ones I would trust is the ones that build them in Soddy daisy Tennessee.. All they do is build mercury racing motors.. Every marina around here uses them to redo the block.. If interested I'll get you the number just let me know..

Bob if the guy in Calhoun was named Chastain moss then he got ripped frm the begging. Guy I know paid $2,200 to have his fully rebuilt an come to find out he only replaced 1 cylinder!! He told on his self when he went own there an he said that a cylinder had went down an it wasn't the 1 he replaced!! I also wouldn't trust David up here he charged me $750 to replace the stator an it wasn't the problem, I carried it back an he told me to get the F off his property!! If you have a Merc I'd only let Dalton Marine in Dalton, strickland outboards in Summerville, or the guys in Soddy daisy work on it.
