I have 1995 Johnson V6 150. Lately I have been having a problem with the engine not wanting to start. Seems like it is flooded out every time I try to crank it. I have never had a problem cranking this engine before. It has its own mind now, but I have never not been able to crank it. Sometimes it moans and groans if it has sat for awhile but it always cranks and runs great. I keep fresh plugs in it QL78YC Champion. This morning my son and I went to the lake and it never fired up. After 30 minutes of trying, the battery gave up the ghost. I new that my battery had some years on it, but i did not realize it had been EIGHT years since I had changed the battery. YEP....eight years. Still had the receipt. We wanted to fish bad today, so we went to Walmart and picked up a new one. Came back and tried again. At first, no fire. Just when I was ready to call it, it fired up. It ran great all morning pretty much. Every now and then I was getting a little jump or skip in the engine upon throttle up. But for the most part it ran great. What is going on here? Any thoughts or ideas? Its like it is flooded out every time. I prime the bulb just like always........maybe I need to change the bulb primer out.....its old but doesn't leak. Plugs looked like they were a little oily after we got home, but didn't look too bad. Any ideas or comment will be appreciated!! Thanks! Greg

It could be a couple of things. You might want to get someone to check the Carbs. My boat was doing the same thing and 3 of the jet were clogged. That caused 3 of my cylenders to go bad and had to have the powerhead rebult. Second could be in the Optical eye or powerpack. I just spent a month tring to get my Johnson 175 running.

Chief,
Thanks for your input. It's not running right. Thought I had fixed it when I found a busted line from the airbox to the carbs, changed the oily plugs, and replaced the primer bulb. Ran great the first time out. Then last night, I had a terrible time getting it to start again. It hestitates and jumps at first throttle up from. Last night, when I hit it, it stopped completely and had a heck of a time getting it to fire. It did finally, and ran pretty good for the night. I can tell it is not running great. Might need to get it in.............tough to do when the whitefish are bitting so good!!!! Thanks again!

I know what you mean about missing the fishing. I had to barrow a boat for my last 3 ABA tournament. I I had got mine in earlier I might have saved a lot of money by not messing up the 3 cylinders

KoKid,
This is Terry and thanks for the lures you gave me to catch the hybrids.
The guy I was speaking about was Anthony and went by 5 Bass Limit. I do not see any posts by Anthony in over a year so I don't know if he is still working on boats.
He did a good job for me and several others but don't know if he is still around.
Thanks again for the baits.
Terry

Terry,
You are very welcome. I hope you got into em last night. I think I put 45 to 50 in the boat.........I lost count. Found them in Stamp Creek with some other folks. With that bait and these hybrids, I've noticed that I have to really watch the hook. They will bend it pretty easily. Thanks for the info. I appreicate it. You know what............last night the boat ran pretty good. I hardly noticed a problem at all. Wondering if maybe I had some water in tank or fuel issue. It hardly missed a beat. I do have an ignition switch that is going bad. Replacing it today. Choke is working OK too. I'll keep at it and see what happens. Hope to see you on the water soon! Thanks again! Greg

Greg I will be ready next time with the lures you gave me. I did not have the popper part. I tried to use a top water plug with the hooks off but it would not cast very far. I had all kinds of bubbles and corks at home but of course didn't bring any. I threw my arm off and never caught another fish with the spoon, roostertail, little george, etc. Your bait is the ticket. Were you working it fast or slow. Thanks.

I was doing all kinds of things. I like to give it a pop when it hits the water to get there attention. Then a steady retrieve. Although I had em hit it on a stop and go style too!! Actually I think they will hit it anyway you give it to them. Not too fast though!!! I had a couple of rods ready to go. Due to the fast nature of the situation. I also was using a Pop-N-Stripe to get a few hits too. Betts makes these little floating jigs. You can get them at Bass Pro Shops. Whatever you are using, make it as small as possible in my opinion. Good Luck Out There!
