I have a 92 johnson 175. The power pack has went out 3 times this year. The first time it went out completely. The 2nd and 3rd it went out only on one side. If anyone has any ideas why this is happening that would be great. One more thing the last 2 times it went out while I was idling.

Each time the power packs went out, did you replace one, or both of them. I was told that you should always replace both power packs, even if only one went bad. I am not really sure of WHY you should do that, only that the mechanics that I know back in Texas believe it to be fact.

It only has one as far as I know. I started using sta-bil before this started because the engine was running rough. Could that have something to do with it?

Stabil does not have anything to do with the packs going out.. If it is your packs you need to replace both because they work in conjunction with one another.. What's the motor actually doing? It might not even be your packs that's giving the problem...

I had to have my power pack replaced on my 05 Johnson 175. The second time out it blew again. Replaced the wiring harness and it stopped. Also might have check you optical eye. It is a problem with Johnson motors. If it is bad do not buy the after market part. I did that and my boat would not run at all. Changed it to a Johnson eye and it worked perfect.
