On Monday, September 6th, 2010 the Patriot Guard stood for the arrival of USMC Lance Corporal Christopher B Rodgers, 20 years old, from Griffin Georgia. This brave hero was 11 years old when the towers fell in the World Trade Center. He and many of us watched in horror at what was happening. As they were falling he told his parents that he wanted to be a Marine. At the completion of high school this young hero joined fulfilling his pledge. He was killed in action by a sniper on the same month he was due to return home. Instead we stood for him as he arrived, in a flag draped military coffin, by private charter to Atlanta airport.
I witnessed his dad, every bit of a big and powerful man clutch his photograph tightly to his chest as he choked back his tears while awaiting the arrival of his son. Once off loaded from the plane the family is given time to spend a few moments at plane side to be with the casket. I stood and watched this bull of a man approach the casket with tears streaming down his cheeks. Once there he bent over, kissed the flag covering his son and bawled his heart out and we all cried with him.
This young hero Will be laid to rest today at his familys request at approx 1:30 PM. Please fly a flag for this hero today and also observe a moment of silence at 1:30 PM in his remembrance. He cashed his blank check that all soldiers sign when they join. The price on his check will read "eternal rest with god". Help us wash away the tears today. Stand down LCpl Rodgers, your mission is complete.

Thought y'all would like to know. This was the highest attended mission of 2010. The community of Griffin really turned out for this hero and his family. We had over 130 motorcycles and 150 members attend. Yes we all cried with the family. What is even more important was that there were two families of The 48th Brigade, Georgia National Guard soldiers that had lost a loved one last year. They too became very touched by this mission because it was their first funeral since theor loss of a son / husband. We had riders from three states today. We are really blessed to have friends such as those who were present today and I feel even more so because of friends that I have made out of all of you. God bless you all.
