If you live out West Gary Dobyns needs no introduction. Gary is the West's all-time leading money winner with over 25 Angler of the Year Titles and 39 fully rigged prize boats to date and on the biggest stages in the West including BASS and FLW. Gary has earned over 2 million dollars in tournament winnings (right up there with Kevin Van Dam).

I met Gary at the Bassmasters Classic when it was held on Lake Wylie in Charlotte, North Carolina a few years ago. After reading countless articles by him and about him I was amazed out how similiar our fishing styles are. When I first introduced myself to Gary we talked just about our passion of fishing jerkbaits for 3 hrs LOL. If I have a fishing hero. Gary Dobyns is IT!!

Gary has recently came out with his own line of rods. Previously Gary was on the G Loomis National Prostaff. Then an opportunity came about with Powell rods where he was a 50% partner with Powell. Gary designed every one of the Powell Rods from start to finish. Everyone that knew Gary knew that it was just a matter of time before Gary put his experience in tournament fishing into a series of rods with his own name on them, and the new Dobyns Rods makes use of the production and custom rod actions that Gary has relied on over many years, signature actions that have contributed to over $2 million in combined tournament winnings.

Under the Dobyns Rods umbrella there are 2 series of rods. The Champion and Champion Extreme. The 2 series of rods are distingushed by the thread color. The Champion (blue trim) and the Dobyns Extreme (red trim). The Champion Series consists of 40 different rods while the Champion Extreme consists of 12 rods and the difference between the 2 lineups is the sensitivity of the blanks and the actions of the rods. The majority of the rods have the Split Grip/No foregrip design which has been a trend in the rod business for several years now. Gary has also asked Big Bass Legend Mike Long to come aboard and design some signature series swimbait rods for the hard core swimbait enthusiasts and they will be available this September. Rumor has it on the West Coast that they will be the most sought after swimbait rods ever. Mike Long has over 50 documented fish 15lbs or bigger and with hundreds over 10lbs. Currently his is biggest is a whopping 21.5lbs.

Look at the rod rack and you'll see my new swimbait rod on the left come September:)! That's when my birthday is; so maybe Mike Bucca A.K.A "The Spot Magician" will just send me one:)! What do you think Mike:)

I checked out both the 7'9" and 8' ML signature series rods at ICAST; and they're gonna be killer! They feel perfect! I'm currently using a 8' custom rod; and that 8' Dobyns rod is almost identical. I can't wait to put it to work:)!

I'm really impressed with all the Dobyns rods I've seen so far. I've heard nothing but good things.
