This Saturday Feb 12th it will be 3 years since i have had a cancer stik. I remember when i quit cigs were right @ 4.00 per pack and by quiting i was saving 125.00 per month, don't know what cigs cost now but i bet i am really saving a bunch of $ now not to mention adding years to my life, freeing up fishing money that way too ;D Quit cold turkey, it really came down to not wanting to die before my time from those nasty things ;D

I am pulling for her too dcan, i think a wise thing to do is take the money you save by not smoking and do something with it that helps keep your mind off smoking, i put my money i used to spend on cigs towards family, boat gas & boat upkeep, and fishing. She should choose one of her favorite activites and put the money she is saving towards that-it will help her.

That's awesome Keith, congrats! I am actually attempting putting them down next tuesday when I get paid and can afford to buy some patches, came to the realization that I am wasting a TON of $$ on these nasty things and hurting not only myself but my family as well! Got my mind set that I'm DONE and thought with what $$ I am spending on cigs will sure go great towards fishing gear and tournaments! Wish me luck, I am determined to stick with it this time and be done with them forever. I have a wife and kids now that I need to stick around for as long as I can!

That's great Keith! I have been off those nasty things since March 14th, 2002. Did not need patches or anything like that. Instead I wore four defibrillator burn marks on my chest for more than two weeks. All I had to do was look in the mirror and remember the doctor's words, "We cardiologists aren't concerned with the cancer part of smoking, it's the carbon dioxide that replaces your blood oxygen that gets us working. You need the oxygen in the blood to heal your muscles and that includes your heart muscle!" BEsides the costs, there is nothing, AND I MEAN NOTHING good that can be said for cigarettes.

You can do it Jason, it just depends on how bad you really want to, i had tried before but finally did it 3 years ago and cold turkey is the best. Like Bob spoke of, you need an incintive to motivate you-and family is No.1. Bob & I will stay on ya until you kick the habit. Here's a note-don't know how much you smoke now but if you quit you proably will save at least 200.00 per month =ing 1200.00 per year.

After 35 years, i laid em down new years eve. Cold turkey! Now if i don't become obese and get in bad health from that, i think i'll be alright. Oh, and the beer drinking ended also, due to them going together like pea's and carrots. I figure i've saved $800.00 since Jan. 1, between the two. Flirting with a new boat payment.

I will be pulling for also. It's all a head thing, I quit one time for 7 months and tried 1 just to see if it tasted the same but it didn't-- It was Better, so I bought a pack on the way home and was smoking just like i was before. I have been quit for over 12 years now (2 weeks after my Father died) and i know not to touch another one.I also quit cold turkey and thats the best way IMHO. What ever you do keep the faith and good luck. Mike

WTG Keith!!!!!
I quit when they where a $1.50 got sick and tired of going to the store to bay a pack. We have a young man in our poker group who smokes,, I think they are around $4-5 a pack. In NY where his mom lives they are $10 a pack.

Thanks for the support guys, after reading this last night I went ahead and decided to go ahead and give them up today! Had my last cig last night at about 8:30, made it thru the hardest part of the day which is the morning for me, I usually have one when I wake up but so far so good! And yes, the prices are outrageous but I was already down to like a pack every 3 days or so which wasn't real bad but at 5 bucks a pack that's still gonna save me enough to pay my fishing dues each month!!

Good luck man! Like said before, it's a mental thing. If you can find something to get it off your mind for a couple of minutes, you forget about it until the next urge. Chewing gum and hard candy are my friend.
