Yes you do Buddy, you will quit when you are ready. After fishing with you and getting to know you i would say you are ready. I know this, Bill Dance used to smoke way back when his BASS fishing career started, way before his show started, and he said he started catching more fish after he quit Cancer sticks. You could probably save 200.00+ per month, there is no doubt that you have to sub something in for them, and there is no doubt that you will live longer ;D

Last night was 1 week smoke free for me! Still feeling strong about it also, seems much easier this time once I actually have my mind convinced NOT to smoke, if I even think about it I just make myself think of something different!

Jason when I first laid them down I just looked at it as one day towards one week, then one week towards one month and now I'm on eight months towards one year. The first two weeks were the hardest and I will not lie to you I still have the urge every now and then, but it is so much easier now to think of that something else to replace those urges. Regardless "DO IT NOW", don't end up like me with 4 stints in one artery and one stint in a different artery, plus taking blood thinners to be sure I don't get a clot inside of one of those arteries. And that doesn't even address the light COPD that I will have the rest of my life. That is what 40 years of smoking did for me. I am just thankful that at least I can still walk and have only lost my endurance. And Mo is right watch your weight during the process of quitting if possible. But quit first and get rid of any extra weight gain next.

I gave up with the Missus 4 1/2 years ago. We gave up together on her birthday. We set the goal some months ahead, so leading up to this point my consumption went from 1 to 2 packs per day Apart from the Wife needing Patches for a couple of weeks we had no problems at all. The other thing that helped me, was to understand that even today, I could pick up a ciggy and instantly have a 20 per day habit once more. I had this perception from other ex smokers that you should hate them and also hate the smell of them too. I actually still go weak at the knees if someone sparks up near me. I do however hate the smell of stale tobacco on other people and on my own clothes ect. There is nothing positive about Cancer Sticks or Coffin Nails (as I like to call them). Young folks who smoke seem to ignore health warnings if you challenge them about it. But, I found that when I tell them it cost me nearly 1/2 million dollars over 27 years, they take notice - that is a Pension!! I am a reformed smoker, as such I want them outlawed everywhere. They are far too harmful to society. Good luck to anyone out there giving up, one of the better quality life decisions you will ever make.

Keep it up Jason, beleive it or not it does eventually get easier, just think about the money you are saving! ;D And here's a note*** when i quit 3 years ago the gas prices had hit 5.00 + and that was also an incetive to quit, what's happening right now...the gas prices are soaring. ;D

I too quit a long time ago but it wasn't soon enough. Like Ray I have COPD that I can control. I had to use the patch to quit after trying cold turkey and a few other methods. Went from 31/2 packs a day to 4 packs of gum a day till I got sick from some sort of virus and quit the gum too. I quit in 93 and have only reached for one 3 or 4 times since then.
Congrats to all that have quit. You all deserve a pat on the back.
