Anyone who owns or have owned a Nitro boat or have an opinion, do you think they are a decent boat for the money? I'm replacing a 1987 1780 procraft 150XR2 Mercury that I bought new in 1987. I'm looking at a Z6 or Z7. Is there a better boat for the same money? www.nitro.com/z-series-boats.cfmThanks

I would go with the Z-7,,,, Nitros quality has come up from what it used to be,, Skeeter is a good boat,, Warren has been trying to sell his team boat and its loaded to the gill,, I fished out of it at the spring fling and I was very impressed with the performance and ride,,, and I'm a Triton Guy...
Good Luck

I own a 929cdx and I love it,mines a 01 model and I do love the boat,I fished out of the new Z8,and the Z9 and those are simply awesome boats, smooth ride, very ,very fast the layout is awesome,I think if you buy one you'll be very happy with the quality!! I would go with the Z8 if I was you,not that big of a price difference but the extra room and power will make a big difference!! Good luck with your choice and post some pics when you get it!!!!

Check this thread out. This guy bought a nitro z9 and is the 2nd owner of the boat. Guess nitro tried to cover it up because the other link wont let you view anything and says you dont have authorisation to view the page.. These are some pictures of the hull.. This happened while running 50MPH on the way back to the ramp at the everstart series event in texas.. The guy didnt hit anything either.. www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=637702

Thanks for the input... If I could afford it I would get a new Ranger... But I'm retired so the $'s are not what they use to be. I may go the used route if I can find a good boat with some warrenty left on the motor.

Used it by far the way to go. You drive off the lot with a new boat and depreciation will hit you in the shorts. I buy used boats with as much motor warranty as possible like you stated.

Plus you can always get a extended warranty from the motor company

I own a 2010 X5 (which is now the Z6) I love it. I purchased the entry level model, so I don't have all the bells and whistles that the bigger boats have, but I upgraded to the 115 pro xs, and I love it. It handles well, for a 17ft boat the 7ft wide beam is very sturdy. Hole shot is good, the motor will still get you into the 50's ( I even pull tubers and skiers). For fishing it's perfect. The only complaint I have is there is no bow mount sonar...I would have paid extra for that. Otherwise I'm very happy...though if I had the money I would have gotten the Z7, it's gives you a lot of the professional "extras" that didn't come on mine.

Check out this site, www.nitroowners.com. lot's of good info and people who own Nitro's. Like all boats some good experiances and some bad. I have a 1998 Nitro 640LX. Second owner and not one issue with the boat and she looks and preforms gtreat still.

Well, I took Mike’s advice and went the used route. Found a 2009 Triton 18 Hp Explorer in Knoxville. Bought it from an individual so saved the 7% state sales tax. Has a Mercury 150 OptiMax with 3 years left on the warranty. Also has 2 Lowrance HDS-5’s` with lake insight , 6 inch jack plate and Vault no maintenance hubs. I went to BPS’s and looked at the Nitros. They are nice boats. The fit and finish was much better than I expected. But in the end the depreciation the first year and the sales tax I saved buying used convinced me to go the used route. Thanks for everyone’s input.
