I live near Allatoona and plan on taking my kids (9 and 6) there for the first time this weekend to pass along the joys of fishing. Any suggestions for the best spot/bait/rigs? I have heard Galt's Ferry is a nice place to take the family. Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Galts Ferry is a great place for the family, there is a fishing jetty there that is lined with a lot of brush that attract fish and if the fishing gets boring there is always the beach and playground there to keep the kids occupied. As far as baits, I'd keep it simple and probably use some minnows with a bobber for bass and crappie, just some regular old night crawlers would work too.

No problem, I also fish from the bank with my kids so I tend to try and find the places that are more entertaining! Good luck and hope the kids enjoy it, fishing is a great thing for kids! Let's them enjoy the outdoors like we used to when we were kids and not cooped up in a house in front of a computer or television!

Yea, leave the computer staring up to us forum people. Just like the other guy said, minnows are good, and worms on either a bobber or one the bottom will catch bass as well. Be prepared to catch a catfish if you put em on the bottom though. THere are also some really nice bream in toona that are fun to catch as well, for them just put a small piece of a worm on a small hook about 16 inches under a bobber, near the bank or a log pile or something.
