Dont usually post here since everyone's mainly focused on the greenfish, but since I caught one while looking for stripes, i decided to share. I'm sure there are a few other whitefish chasers out there that frequent this sight too.
Fished solo yesterday morning and decided I was going to stay close to the dock. That decision proved to be the wrong one...
Started at mid-lake and unlike last week was marking very few fish. They showed-up around 8am last week, so hung around till about that time, but nada. I did manage to land 1 hybrid on a free line and a white on a planer board before deciding to more. I really need to learn to keep moving if i dont see fish on the screen, because i typically waste a lot of time dragging baits in unproductive areas...
Decided to look north; looked at the humminbird all the way to gar bay area; saw nothing but bait. Like I said, PLENTY of bait, but no fish. I decided I'd work one area for a bit and maybe find a loner running through. Put out the spread of downs, flats and planers and started pulling on edge of channel.
Maybe about 10 minutes in, i'm playing with my electronics and the drag on the downline starts going off. The fish hit it hard and went straight under the boat and got tanged in the rear downline. Fought it for a bit and it got freed from the rear down line and pulled up a striper. Thought I might be in the right spot...
Kept pulling and landed largemounth on a flat line. Not too much later my balloon off the rear starts flying backwards and thought for sure I was going to pull in another striper, but after him pulling some drag and a brief fight he shook the hook:(
Landed one more white before heading in and calling it a day.
I did catch a big gizzard while looking for bait; thought about tossing him on a planer, but dont think my tackle's heavy enought to land anything big enough to eat it...
