Help with putting a youngster on fish

The kids were out of school Monday for MLK day so we took my grandson out with because he'd expressed an interest in fishing. Allatoona, being what it is, didn't give up any fish that day. Afterwards it dawned on me that trying to introduce a 13 year old kid to bass fishing (especially on Allatoona) might not be the greatest idea in the world. I'm fine with getting skunked (as long as the boat doesn't sink and the engine doesn't blow up), but kids get bored awful easy.

SO, I was thinking that next time out that maybe we should go after something other than bass and probably use live bait. Anyone have suggestions for a sure-fire way to get some fish in the boat on Allatoona and turn a youngster on to fishing (it doesn't matter what they or how big they are)?

Even the guides have bad days on the water this time of year, regardless of what you are fishing for. That said, hiring a guide is still your best bet for any kind of fishing if you wish to dramatically reduce your risks. For the bassfishing on Toona right now, the FnF is still a pretty good numbers technique, crankbaits in shad and crawfish colors seem to still be working as well. Just remember not to give up, sometimes it takes a lot chunking and winding to produce a handful, but after you boat a couple you can usually up those numbers quickly if you pay attention to what just happened.
