Hey everyone, happy fishing I am Drew and am headed up to Lake Allatoona (Allatonna Landing Marina to be exact) in June for a week long vacation. I am from western Florida and spend most of my time when fishing out in the Gulf looking for Key West Grunts and Gag Grouper. I have not been lake fishing in 15 years and that was up in Tennessee. I plan on bringing my kayak with me for some relaxation and fishing. But as i have not been lake fishing in so long, I am really at a loss of what I need to bring with me and what spots may be around. i was thinking of getting on a morning charter when I got there to learn the lake some, and learn the better baits to use while I am there. I want to catch and cook most of my food while I am there, so the more I can learn early the better. I have read that bass, far, and carpie seem to be the most sought after catches in the lake, but is there much of a catfish sceen there as well? If anyone can throw me some advise on what baits to use, more active feeding times, and rigging I would need would be awesome I have my "in shore" poles set with 10 lb test lines. It works great for grunts.

Yeah lost where I was going with the charter talk. If anyone knows some good Captains who will be working in mid June, can you please leave me some info to contact them?

First of all, Welcome to the Allatoona Bass Forum. That time of year, in a yak is going to be a challenge with all the pleasure boaters on this lake. Easing around the marina fishing for crappie will be your best bet, light line, gold Aberdeen hooks and minnows should produce the best for crappie. As far as bass fishing the only guide that I know of that MIGHT be available is the forum owner, Mike Bucca. There are several Striped Bass guides that might be available for morning trips, but their names slip my memory right now. You can probably google striped bass guides on Lake Allatoona?

Some striper guides you may want to check out: first bite guide service, extreme stripers guide service, Fred Duncan and Rick shoup. All of these guys will put you on fish and teach you a bunch.

And yes, you should be able to easily catch some eating size catfish fishing on the bottom with some cutbait. Just set the poles out in the bank like you were fishing on the beach.

Ty for all the advice. I will be checking them out soon. I expect the lake to be busy with boaters, but hope to find some of my own space here and there
