Just upgraded my old Johnson 12/24 trolling motor to a minn Kota maxxum 70lb. I do not have near the lbs thrust out of the new minn Kota as compared to the Johnson. The Johnson had the 12/24 switch on the foot pedal, so I felt like the four prong receptacle was already wired 24v. With the the new minn Kota, I had only a red and black wire, so I made a jumper on the four prong plug and the motor seemed to work. In reading some other forums, it appears the Johnson I had was about a 41 lbs thrust. If I have nearly doubled my output, why am I moving slower? I have tested the oms on the receptacle and I am getting 24v to the receptacle. Could I have done something wrong with wiring the plug? My boat is a 88 ranger with the four prong receptacle that has red/black wire and orange/white wire. Thanks.

I am interested in what you find out. After today's wind, my trolling motor just can't hack it.

The old one was probably 41 volts on 12 volts and 82 pounds on 24 volts. Loosing 12lbs thrust is a lot on a boat.
