Guys, We are very very close to organizing our first of many 2008 Tree Cuttings. I thought since we have almost 800 guys registered here and most are new that I would explain how things are done so that EVERYONE has an opportunity to participate.
For starters we try to do things with the tree cutting to encourage participation. We keep the areas secret to ONLY to the ones that participate in the tree cutting project. It's ALOT of work cutting trees so we try to take care of the guys that help and participate. To help you don't have to own a saw or even cut a tree. There are lots of jobs to do for those that might have knee problems or whatever reason. Such as shuttle the tree cutters, securing the tree to the shoreline, carry tree cutting supplies with boat, waterboy etc etc.
We usually list dates and times and areas a few days and sometimes a week in advance here on the forum. We will have dates during the week and during the weekend to give everyone an opportunity to particpate. Last year we cut 400 trees on Lake Allatoona. Of course you don't have to participate and obviously you can find the areas on your own but they aren't quite that easy to find sometimes . So a map is always helpful especially if you don't get around the lake much.
Once you have participated you will have access to the private maps showing ALL of the tree cutting locations we have listed on our site as it is password protected.
The entrance to the private site is a subboard is located here

Last year there were 4 team leaders. Me, Ray Bowin (leapenlineman), Bruce Miller (Bfriendly) and Matt Driver (mattd). To my knowledge we are going to have the same 4 team leaders this year. The rule is you CAN NOT cut trees without atleast ONE team leader present. All four of us have been trained on safety procedures and rules put forth by the Corps of Engineer and DNR officials and we have all the rope, special nails and washers to secure the trees to the shoreline. Everyone cuts trees or participates at their OWN RISK and MUST sign a release waiver (see a Team Leader, COE or DNR official) removing the COE and DNR from responsibility of any accident that might occur while cutting trees.
Let me know if Ray, Bruce, Matt or I can answer any questions as it pertains to tree cutting. Gently put if you are a stressed person tree cutting is FOR YOU!! LOL. It's a blast and you will get to meet tons of folks and put faces to names on the forum.
The areas this year will be much more diverse so I know I can speak for most of the team leaders that we are very excited about Tree FEST 2008..
Please use this forum to communicate/plan/announce Tree Cutting projects or any questions concerning the Tree Cutting Project. Also team leaders feel free to post tree cutting sessions on the General Fishing forum as well for greater exposure.
