hey guys when you hook the outboard up to a water hose, how much is it suppose to pee? Hooked mine up yesterday and let it run for 20 min, never over heated or sound any alarm but it never was peeing out the hole? is this norm? Or does it sound like I need a water pump?

Kacee,, mine did/does the same thing,, I think it was the muffs not having a good seal around the intakes,, took it up to the ramp and it was pissing like no tomorrow,, Now I did replace my water pump and poppet valve. (I replace my pump every 3 years for my piece of mind)

That is normal if you don't get a complete seal around the suction cups. You should see it pee without the motor running & after the water makes it all the way through the water ports. May take a few seconds to start. Some motors make it difficult to get that seal, in those cases where you can't get a complete seal then make sure that the spigot that you are getting the water from is all the way open.

My Mercury 225 will only start when I actually engage the propeller.

My Mercury 225 will only start when I actually engage the propeller. Bet that makes life interesting at times (high winds).

Soretoe, what I was trying to say is my mercury will only pee with the garden hose attachment when I engage the propeller. Did not mean that the only way it will start is with shifter engaged, sorry if I was not clear.

I put my hand over the intakes on the lower unit cone and that helps it get the peein started.

Was on Allatoona a few days ago and noticed my water presure had dropped while running down the lake. Looked back and motor wasn't peeing. Loaded boat and went home and looking for a mechanic to change my water pump. Went outside and took the motor cover off and found water in the bottom of motor. Then found a small rubber hose not connected to a plastic valve. Connected it back together and hooked up hose and it started peeing. Took to lake and water pressure is back to normal. Sometimes you get lucky.
