the fury is not made in a pitch that can be used on that boat. the smallest one they make is a 24 and it turns more like a 25. his boat would not turn it if it had a 12 inch plate. he needs the tempest to get the bow up on that boat regardless if he has a plate or not. the plate would be a very good thing to get for it but if he does not he still needs a tempest.

Got the boat back from second dealer...it was getting to open throttle.
I just noticed that the oil the first dealer put in was Shell RotellaT heavy duty 15w-40...it doesn't say 2 cycle anywhere on the container. I know that the oil he put in because I saw home top it off and put the bottle with remaining amount in a back storage compartment.
Will that affect RPMs?

he probley just had bulk oil in the back and used that container to take it from the 55 gallon drum he had to the boat. my mechanics did it all the time at the marine dealership i worked at . you need to put more time on the motor then you can start set up on it to run where it needs to run.

Spoke to the dealer...that's exactly what he did...bulk drum and put in a different container.
Had the boat out again this morning and managed to trim it up to just getting to 5500 RPMs.
Spoke to dealer afterwards and he will order me the prop I want to swap it out (since he originally sold it to me with a mercury prop and switched me to Solas instead of just going with a different pitch). I am going to have him order me a tempest plus...based on my RPMs a I am thinking I would get 21"...although someone for another site said they run the same boat with a 22".

do you know what pitch is on it now? the tempest will turn a little heavier than a solas. meaning that if you turn say 5500 with a 23 solas it will turn say 5200 to 5300 with a tempest in the same pitch. i would say after break in and a little time on the motor it would turn a 23 tempest but maybe a 22 would be better for your application depending on what kind of load you normally run.

The Solas I am turning 5500 is only a 21". So does that mean I need to go with a 21" Tempest?
Does the Trophy plus turn about the same as a tempest?

yes a trophy will turn about the same. I really think after you put some time on the motor a 21 is going to be to small especially in the fall and winter months. also it would be very beneficial for you to add a jackplate to the boat.

I run a trophy 25P on my 20' boat, and I can tell you that it does not provide the bow lift a tempest would provide. Ditto what Justin is telling you. A jackplate and Higher pitch Tempest is going to be your best bet (thinking around 23 or 24P for your rig).

bob is correct. your boat is going to need help getting the nose up and a trophy is not going to do it. also with a plate your motor will turn a couple more rpm than without one

I have heard Jacl plates put additional strain on the transom...is that correct?

in a way yes it is but i can assure you it will not be anything that will hurt or tear your boat up. if you look at most new boats most of them come standard with a jackplate. it is a necessity to have in order to set one up properly and maximize your boat and motor combo.

That Jackplate will not hurt your transom, in fact I would say that anything built after 1990 was built with jackplates in mind. It will definitely help you, hole shot and top end.
