Best way to catch a gar from a kayak?

Hi

What is the best way to target gars in allatoona from a kayak? I don't bowfish or use live baits.
I have a ton of lures. I fish the north part of the lake close to the Etowah river in Canton but will travel to other parts if needed.

Honestly? I don't anyone who fish for gar around here. Every great once in a while someone will accidentally catch one.

It is a sight fishing thing. I have seen guys tie a piece of twine on a treble hook and lay it in the boat. When they see a Gar they toss it out and play it on top. You need a tough leader. That is one mean fish. Don't get any where near it's mouth if you get it hooked and to the boat. I have seen them in the creeks and deep coves. Usually when the water is calm. If you hook one in a Kayak you might be in for a Nantucket Sleigh Ride.

Shredded Nylon rope, their teeth get caught in the rope. There was an article in GON about catching Gar with Nylon rope by some guy who fishes Lake Jackson for them using Nylon rope, i actually think he was called the Gar Guide - LOL, google the article.

See if you can put in from the parking lot of the marina at the mouth of Stamp Creek, "Wilderness?". There are usually some around the rocks and out the point where the markers are. Let us know how it goes, I've been thinking of making a lure or two myself.
