Well it was around 49 degrees and FOGGY this morning when we started out. 7:30AM was good enough to see about 1/4 mile so we hit it. The Fog finally cleared, the clouds started to break up and the wind started to blow, then the temperature actually fell. The lake ranged from heavy stain to pretty clear depending on where you fished, with 50 to 51 degrees temps just about everywhere.
We ended up with 21 members on the water today (13 boats in all). Every single person brought fish to the scales today for one of the best weigh-ins we've had! There were 81 fish weighed for a total of 171.22lbs, that's a 2.11lb average per fish. There were many 2lb, 3lb and 4lb fish today, In fact it looked like the Calcutta Pot was going to fall to a Spotted bass for a while, but none ever hit the 5lb mark!
As impressive as it was to see so many fish weighed, the final five money spots were pretty darned impressive by themselves! We paid five places and here's the way it went (bottom up):
Stan Knowles had fifth with 5 fish for 11.23lbs
Ken Heinrich had fourth with 5 fish for 11.76lbs
Caleb Rodgers had third with 5 fish for 12.66lbs
Robbie Holmes had second with 5 fish for 13.31lbs (Ed Huskins fished the back of Robbie's boat and also had a nice 5 fish limit for 8.33lbs)
Monty Cantrell Blew it away with a 5 fish limit for 14.97lbs and a Big Bass of 4.43lbs.
I was truly humbled by this weigh in and the various methods that were used to catch these fish. Every one in the Top five used some very distinct techniques to catch the fish. The winner used both a jerkbait and a deep diving crankait, Second place fell to a T-rigged Black Trick Worm, Third place fish succumbed to Jig-n-pig and shakey head, Fourth place used crankbaits and spot-remover worm rigs, and fifth place went to a jig and twin-tail grub combo. Just for grins... Wally had four fish and I had a limit in our boat and everyone of them came on Float n Fly
