Looking for bass but have been rigging up a catfish pole to keep my daughter entertained. She has been catching a few. First words out of her mouth after school is usually can we go down and fish. I have been fishing a silver spoon for anything that will bite any other hints would be well accepted. I am stuck on shore for now. So I can't get out like I would like to. Once I land a job I can get my boat out and hopefully be able to afford to put gas in it.

Nice catfish. What are you using to catch them on?

Being new to the area, I am guessing I am near the mouth of the little River. Looking at the Map I am located and the far East end of the lake. We live in the Brookshire housing development and the area I am able to access walking ten minutes from my house is where I am trying to focus. I did stop by the Old Rope Mill Park and talked to some local anglers and asked what all is biting there and I was informed that there are stripers and large Mouth Bass. As far as what we were using for the Catfish, I have had luck with worm and even the catfish paste stuff they sell at Wal-mart. One question some one here might be able to answer is what is jumping out of the water some much? I have seen Gar down there and I snagged a carp one day, literally I sunk two trebbles into his dorsal.

Fishin4fun, I have always had two lures that would work just about anywhere. First, the white Rooster Tail. When you look at a display of them, go just above medium size. Second, a black and silver Rapala, either floating or countdown. 1 1/2 to 2" in length. It doesn't take much of a rod to throw either one, but with light line and a lighter action rod, they will cast quite a ways. I am not much of a plastic fisherman (yet), but Killian used to really whack them on smaller impoundments.
Fishing Hole, as a general rule, bass will jump and splash, carp will roll or "tail slap", and the Gar will "cut" the surface (hard sound to describe). For many years, I would think that a carp slap was a bass, but once you see them do it, it is easier to identify. My guess for your area, you are either hearing bass chasing bait or carp slapping. Last week, we saw a ton of carp raising cain in some shallow grass. Evidently, they were spawning and really get into it.

well for bass ratlle traps 1/4oz. size work quite often and maybe a fluke/slug-o will work well too. i have cought them latly on a carolina rig but i don't know how that fits your spot. for an any fish kind of rig i would deffinatly go with the rooster tail or the old faithful worms and minnows hope that helps
