Opened and closed the tailgate on my Silverado this am with no trouble, got to the lake and it will not open. I tried making sure it was closed all the way, it is. I can hear and feel the latch working at least on one side and I think the other but it will NOT open!!!!
Any idea's?
Jeff

haha I was going to say that's about the time I get out the hammer or give the tailgate a good kick.... not sure what the real problem is, just that was my first response

you may have one of the arms come loose. try to open it and while you have it pulled fill up in there, you will have one on the left and one one the right

There should be a place to access the inside of the tailgate just behind the handle. Pop that open and you might find the problem. Quick solution is to pop the latch from inside the bed with a screwdriver. Sometimes you can see the latch from inside the bed. Most likely, a rod has popped out of the handle mechanism, and you can get to it from the access mentioned before.

Exactly what I was going to say, You may have to lossen or remove those 3 bolts on the inside of the t-gate.

Ray! Shame on you using the "F" word!!! LOL Thanks guys, I'm going to try to get to the latch/handle to see if a little extra persuasion helps. OK- Shadowfax you nailed it! The clip that holds the passenger side actuator rod to the handle mechanism is missing. I hope I can buy one w/o having to buy a new bed for the truck! LOL Thanks everyone! Jeff Jeff
