I have a 1960 something Fastwin that starts, runs for a few seconds and dies. I have tried adjusting the mixture knob to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated.

check your fuel pump or if it has set for a long period of time you may need a carb rebuild.

one thing i do is at the ramp run my motor (carb) dry (out of gas) i don't get out on the lake week in week out. i have a smaller outboard. i unhook my remote line. i do this just because i don't know when the next time i'm going to go out on the water, and don't wan tthe fuel to sit in the bowl for a month or whatever.

If the motor has been setting up for a while, you'll need to clean the fuel system, this includes removal and taking the carbs apart to clean them. Don't just spray carb cleaner thru the carbs with the carbs still mounted. You got to get in there and clean the jets, float bowl and needle. Also make sure the pickup in the tank is not blocked and you have no air leaks in the fuel system. Hope this helps.
