Fishing is much improved with this mornings stringer going in excess of 30 fish with a 50/50 mix of hybrids and spots. If you can find the right fish at the right time the fishing can be really good (yeah I got lucky LOL). The live bait bite is fairly good at first light. The schooling fish are up but only come up for a few brief seconds so you have to be not only quick but close to get a bait in front of them. But the deep bite is still the most consistant. The absolute key with the schooling fish is small baits. A sammy 100 is too big. Pop Rs aren't a bad choice but the best thing I have found is a white roostertail and a pointer 78 of all things and that is even out producing the ol reliable Pop N Cork and doll fly rig . When they go down I am getting a few on the Fish Head spin and on a Gotcha bait. The fish that I do get on the Fish head and the Gotcha are quality 2lb + fish. There is just a ton of suspended fish 25ft down over a 50 foot bottom. Very very difficult to catch suspended spots with conventional lures. On the deep bite I am doing a little bit of sonar fishing as well as around the end of long points and around brush. I am fan casting those points while keeping an eye on my sonar for the spaghetti lines. The pic below is what you need to be looking for on your graph. If you don't see spaghetti keep moving until you do. This pic means constant action! Sorry for the vertical lines that is interference from my console sonar.
I am doing very well with a spoon of all things as well as the dropshot with a Owner downshot hook. Fish the spoon on the bluff walls, long points and around brush and you will get bit. I am working it all the way out to 40ft and I am snagging a few in the 35ft range. I'm working a 3/4 oz homemade spoon (not important) in white. I'm just pumping it down the point, walls and vertically around brush. The quality of fish this morning was outstanding. I had 2 spots going 3lbs and quite a few 2lbish sized fish. Most of my fishing is from Allatoona Landing to Clear creek.
The GPS coordinate of the week is located between Allatoona Pass and Bethany Bridge. It's a hump and it's actually marked by a bouy right now. Fish out from the hump in 25-30ft of water and that is where you will find the brush. Most of the brush is on the east side of the bouy. There are several 5ft tall brushpiles down there.
