Water temp 83, Water level 5ft below full pool.
Fishing is pretty good by summer standards. Right now I am averaging 12lbs 5 fish. Catching anywhere from 10-15 fish a day. The bigger fish are by far deeper than the smaller fish. My magic depth is 30ft right now. I am down to 2 baits dropshot and spoon both in 1/2 oz. The key for me is covering water and finding the right areas that are holding fish. I am running the run and shoot and working everything from points to bluff walls and just trying to cover as many of them during a day as possible. Some brush is also producing as well. The topwater bite has been kinda rough for me since the full moon hit us earlier this week. By next week we should be back in the swing of things for schoolers.
On Thursday I have to share a story. I took out one of the guys in the top ranks of the Monday nite tournament as my witness. We were idling out of a pocket and we spotted a GIANT wave not 20 yards inf ront of us. I mean a wave bigger than any 40mph winds I have seen produced on Allatoona. I didn't have much time to react but I put the nose of the boat into the air and we took not 1 but 3 waves over the nose of the boat. We had 5 inches of water in the cockpit of my 20ft Triton on a hot windless summer day? I have plowed through 4 footers back in Texas but I have never seen a wave even half that size on Allatoona. Once we ventured through that and made it into the main lake I couldn't find the possible boat or whatever that put off a wave like that.
OK GPS point of the week is a ditch on a flat that is located between Gaults and Harbor Town (closer to Harbor Town). The fish like to get in this ditch not only because it's deeper but because it's the only structure on this massive shallow flat. It's difficult to stay on top of but I have caught some decent limits here this year.
