I have actually been here about 2 years..
here is the thing. My kid loves to fish... but in oregon we fish for trout. You go to the lake, put some power bait on and catch a fish..
that is about all I know about fishing, but I really want to take my boy to catch some fish.. any pointers or recomendations?!

We have a bank fishing thread. It has lots of places to go.
Once the water starts back that area where 92 crosses the lake is good for some nice crappie. Fish on the Allatoona side of that little dam. I used to have better luck on the Acworth side of the spillway when fishing from the bank. If the water is gushing in at a pretty good rate and there isn't anyone else there cast into the fast water & let your bait work down stream a bit. Also visit it before the water rises and get the lay of the area. The channel is reachable from the bank and there have been lots of 10+ pound flatheads pulled out of there, use cut bait for them.

Would I be able to catch bass this time of the year off the bank? or do I need more skill... I really want to learn because my son loves to fish... I want to be "that dad"~

Personally, I think it would be tough to do on Allatoona this time of year.

Jason, I would wait till it warms up some before taking your son out bank fishing on Toona. It's tough enough in a boat much less being land locked. Several bank areas to consider this spring are as follows. 1. Gaults Ferry. Nice jetty with xmas trees and a play ground once your son gets bored. 2. Red Top Jetty (on the I 75 side of bethany bridge). Lots of xmas trees 3. Kellogg Creek. Probably the best crappie hole on the lake. As for trout. The Chattahootcihie is loaded with trout. Christie Lester with Natures Tackle Box would be the trout expert to ask. I do know there are several pay trout ponds with trout north of Atlanta but I don't know much about them. I have heard good things about "THE TROUT POND" I did a google search and found their site. I have heard it's pretty easy fishing. You have to keep the fish. www.thetroutpond.com/Home.html

ok I am back.. is it a good time to start? I see a lot of cars parked in Acworth right where the bridge crosses on 41. I am assuming this is the lower part of Allatoona?

Jason, Toona can be tough... By chance do you have any co workers that have a neighborhood pond/lake?? Might be a start and ask around at your place of employment. I can't imagine someone turning down a kid asking to fish.
