Water Temp 45-50
Clarity: Clear to slight stain
Water Level 5.21ft low
Fishing is GOOD and the water is finally starting to clear up. The area right in front of the dam seems to be the muddiest but the rest of the lake has a light stain to it. I got a few times this week and fishing overall has been good. Earlier in the week with the colder temps the Float N Fly bite has been off the charts. Then throughout the rest of the week it has been getting slower and slower.
Earlier in the week the Float N Fly bite was insane and probably the best I have seen it for overall quality/numbers even at . On Monday I easily had 10 fish over 15 inches but no real kickers to go with them all on the Spot Sushi colored Lester Fly. The bite locations has shifted for me and I think it due to fishing pressure. I am still getting fish in the obvious places but I am catching better quality and numbers of fish in more discreet areas that are not as obvious float n Fly areas. I'm still getting them out of deep water and a few are coming off of deep brush and humps, but just not the run of the mill float n fly areas that go with the technique. I am keeping my leaders at 10 to 12 feet roughly with an occasional blast to 15ft in lenght.
As I said earlier the float N Fly bite dwindled a bit as we progressed into the week as the weather turned warmer. I got out with Chris Welchel yesterday and we got a few float n fly fish early but nothing huge. Chris whooped my tail with that new "Spot Sushi" fly color David Lester has had me playing with. Chris forgot his float n fly box so I let him have the last one I had and he hung with it all day and he had WAY more bites than I did from the back of the boat. This color is very unique because it has peach color hair in it and it's hard to find. It looks very cool in the water and has 3D eyes for added realism..
As you see from alot of previous reports the big girls are just starting to roam the shallows. It won't be long before the largemouth will be playing a huge factor on Allatoona. Pay attention to those water temps as they will be the key factor within the next few weeks. Some creeks are warmer than others and those are the ones you need to focus on for the more active fish (think thermal refuges here). Also take note that "parts" of creeks and creek arms are warmer than others which is another factor that needs to be observed and adjusted to.
Here are a few fish from earlier in the week. Thanks to Pat (Hrus) for snapping these for me.
