I have a V176 Magnum aluminum Triton with a Mercury 90HP 2-stroke. I would like to upgrade the prop to stainless.
I know absolutely nothing about props - how do I go about determining which prop would be best for my boat/motor combination?
Thanks for the help! Jeff

If your satisfied with the preformance of it now then I'd just stay with the same pitch you got but in a SS prop!hope this helps!

I would say the advice KB gave is the best way to start. Then go from there. Stainless and Alum props will act differently. Find a bud who has a SS prop in your current pitch and try it out. Then go up or down in pitch size from there.
Too bad prop dealers wont let you give it a test drive first.

That does help. I guess one thing I'm not sure of is how my current performance is compared to the potential performance. Right now my top speeds are in the low 40s with two anglers and gear. Any idea if this is about what I would expect from a 90HP on a 17.5ft aluminum boat?

Well I don't know much about aluminum boats but I would have to say that if you can run in the 40's that sounds like you got the right combo!Atleast to me running 40mph in a 17.5' aluminum boat is doing da#% good but like I said don't know much about-um,but I would stay -w- what you got

Performance Prop in Soddy Daisy, Tenn. will let you test as many props as they have on the shelf. They are about 5 miles from the boat ramp at Chester Frost Park on Lake Chickamauga. The only rule they have is if you ding it you buy it.

I have a question. Is a higher pitch better on take off or top end.

the higher pitch the more top-end speed, but hurts hole-shot
